Summary of an essay

In the essay entitled Bookmarking the World, Jo Ann Oravec discusses how the internet is expanding in the number of ways to express oneself. An increasingly popular expansion is the weblog. A weblog is where a person gives information and his opinion about other web sites while designing his weblog page with his own designs. It isn't easy to provide examples of weblogs because the overall structure is best seen after many entries have been made over time. Weblog developers, or bloggers, often work alone but sometimes will work as a team. Weblogs aren't always made to critique other sites, but sometimes they are used in a similar fashion of a personal journal. Many educators can use weblogs to promote online interaction among students. This is a useful but easy way of bringing the internet into the classroom while maintaining an atmosphere involving education. Constructing weblogs also promotes the developers to use their own personal styles and designs, rather than copying those of others. Some problems with weblogs include necessary updating and privacy, as well as quality and content. The many dimensions of a wblog make it a great tool for students to show their own personal preferences and language. Though there are some differences, weblogs are often compared to personal home pages. With internet sites being created constantly, weblogs help to filter out the useless ones and put more emphasis and create easier links to good, useful sites. Many professionals have begun using weblogs, especially in business and journalism education. The weblog can be a very useful tool for students, teachers, and professionals in many different walks of life.
I just read some essays

The essay entitled School is Bad For Children by John Holt discusses why it's not a good thing to put children in a classroom where they will only be bored and become depressed due to being forced into attendance so often. Mr. Holt feels that students have evolved into people who try to pry answers out of the teacher in any way possible, and they put more work into avoiding work than into the actual work itself. The solution presented by Mr. Holt is to let students learn outside the classroom all the time. He suggests that, instead of cramming kids into a classroom every day and pounding information into their heads, they should be allowed to witness society and learn from what they see. The essay discusses a couple of schools who already use this procedure. It might seem like it isn't school, but I think it is actually a great idea. If a student reads about court procedures, he might forget a few details. However, if the same student were to see several court cases in person, he would probably become a lot more interested and pay attention to the content of the case as well as the official procedures followed by the court. This essay is filled with interesting and radical suggestions about how to change the way children are taught in our country.

What is the reason for education?

Sometime throughout his scholastic years, a student will probably say "I hate school" or "School is just a waste of my time." Although everyone wishes they didn't have to go to school sometimes, education serves a very necessary purpose. During my senior year of high school I began to think that I didn't need to go to school anymore. I felt that I knew enough to excel at a college level, so why should I be stuck in a high school with set rules running my life? Toward the end of the school year I began to realize that education serves a good purpose as a socializing time as well as a time to learn skills that will help me become successful in life.

I don't think I would have any friends at all if I had never been in high school. Although I met a lot of my friends, including my current roommate, through hockey, school was a great place to build these friendships in an easy going environment. When I think back about anyone of my friends, I can remember vividly the first time I really talked to them and began the friendship. Almost all of these memories take place in a school environment. My first day of ninth grade I didn't know anyone in any of my classes and I felt out of place. By the time my senior year rolled around, I don't think I had any classes where there weren't at least three good friends of mine there with me. If I wasn't "forced" to spend an hour a day in a classroom full of people, I doubt I would have met any of these people. All of my close friendships I now have were started in an educational environment.

The equation of happiness is completed with success. Sure, it sounds like something you'd read in a classroom, but I believe it's true. All of my years in school have given me a solid foundation to begin college, where I will continue to build a strong educational background in order to pursue a (hopefully) successful career in mechanical engineering. My hard work throughout junior high and high school helped me to be prepared for the AP calculus exam, which I passed with a score of five, allowing me to skip a prerequisite and jump to a higher level of mathematics right away. I don't know how long I will be in college, what kind of degree I will get, or anything like that. What I do know is that every class I go to will teach me something new that could help me in my quest for success and happiness. Once my education is finished I will be prepared to begin a career in mechanical engineering, and I am very excited for that.

I feel that I am past the halfway point in my education. Although the next few years will be loaded with new information, I have learned all of the basics and am ready to begin more advanced things pertaining to my major. I can't wait to finish all of my required classes and get into a higher level of college courses. I wouldn't have the motivation or the abilities to be in this position if I wasn't given a terrific education my entire life. Going to school has given me a number of great friends and it has also made my chances of success higher. Due to the great rewards available to me, I think that the burdens that come along with education are worth my while. Hopefully I continue to carry these opinions and this attitude about it through the remainder of my college career.

REASON FOR BEING IN THIS ENGLISH 110 CLASS

I am taking this class for a number of reasons. Primarily, I'm taking it because it is required. Usually when a class is required I look at it as meaning that it'll be boring and probably tough but I have to do it. This class seems pretty good so far though. My last year of high school all I took was writing classes and it seems like we'll be doing a lot of writing in here, most of it web-based. The only drawback of the class so far is that 9:00 A.M. comes pretty early for lazy people like myself. I'm hoping that the majority of the work done in this class will be writing assignments rather than reading. I'd rather write a hundred papers than read a novel. I don't know how well I explained my reasons for taking this class, but I tried. A summary sentence could be "I am taking this class because it's a required class that looks like a little fun, even though it's early in the morning."

Check it out!

Another blog I filtered, this one is about nothing. I liked the way a lot of it was worded so I put it on here. It's a blog about blogs, and it also has many other blogs linked to it. I like the design and the idea of it and will definitely be returning often to check the updates on the blog. I like that blog... that is a NICE blog! :D
COFFEE COFFEE COFFEE!!!

This is a pretty cool site for coffee lovers. It has pretty much anything and everything relating to coffee in some matter. There is some info about Starbucks as well as stuff for home roasters. Although I take very little personal interest in this blog, I'm going to show it to my mother next time I see her.
